LAURA HORTON - Social Entrepreneur

Laura Horton, a 41-year-old social entrepreneur, environmental campaigner, volunteer and single mother of four children aged from five to 16, from Wrexham, needs more than twenty-four hours in the day!

Her hectic life starts at 6.30am when she jumps into the shower before waking up the children and getting them ready for school.

After dropping the youngest off at the bus stop at 8am she's back home in her kitchen sorting out the families recycling.

After that Laura's working day starts at 8.45am. She currently works from home having set up her own business 'Help Save Our Planet, Recycle', although she is waiting hear about a premises in the People's Market, Wrexham. Laura said: "I sell everything from commercial products to recycled stationary to eco-friendly cleaning products.

"I also speak to local businesses about any environmental issues they might have such as bins or waste and give them any help, advice or guidance I can.

"I've also got a web site where people can log on to ask questions and I always like to make sure I'm on hand to help anyone as much as I can."

She has even taken on a helper in the form of New Deal worker Peter.

Laura finishes work at 5pm to pick up the youngest of her children and arrives back home for 5.45pm in time to start cooking the family meal and catch up with the children on how their day has gone.

After that its a bath at 7pm for the youngest whose then off to bed.

Laura said: "Once the dishes are washed I can spend a bit more time with the other three in the evening, it's just nice to have some quality time together."

Not giving herself any time to rest, at 8pm Laura's back to work attending campaigning meetings and volunteering with IMAGE, (Improve Marford and Gresford Environment) or doing more environmental research for her business. Laura said: "I think if you're passionate about something then anything's possible."

This takes her right up to midnight, when she finally makes it to bed. Last Updated: 14 May 2007
