HOW TO DO YOUR BIT

To give you ideas of how you can help to reduce waste by recycling more and by reducing the amount of material you accumulate in the first place, we will be adding a series of practical "How to" articles.

This first article shows you how a surprisingly large amount of unnecessary packaging material can be disposed of before you even leave the supermarket.

The more that people do this, the more the supermarkets will realize the absurdity of some of the excess packaging they have on their goods. What possible reason could there be for shrink wrapping a humble swede or cucumber in plastic?!

WE NEED YOUR HELP...

Would you consider taking part in the first eco shopping trip in Denbigh with The Recycle Lady, to raise awareness about the problems with excess packaging on products?

'The Recycle Lady' is planning a trip to Morrisons , we would like to get as many people involved as possible (The more people the better).

The plan is to leave ALL packaging with Morrisons in the hope that their suppliers will see the error of their ways, and stop using unnecessary packaging or alternatively use bio degradable materials.

Morrisons will hopefully be encouraged to provide in store bins for environmentally committed shoppers to place unwanted packaging in the near future. Recycling needs to be made easy for all to participate.

The shopping trip would be an opportunity to raise awareness. Furthermore we intend to invite the local press. It is up to us the public to encourage climate change.

If you are interested in joining the 'Fight against Packaging Campaign' please contact us for more details. You would need to allow approximately two hours of your time, armed with a pair of scissors, small storage containers and a sense of humour!

Please note: It is not illegal to leave packaging behind in a store. The shopper is purchasing the goods not the marketing material that it is wrapped in.

If you would like to add to this list then please send us an e-mail
The public are entitled to know were they can leave packaging behind freely

HOW "The Recycle Lady" does it...

Laura always takes a selection of containers with her so that she can transfer goods from the original packaging where appropriate.

This is just some of the unnecessary packaging from a weekly shop.
